History talk on 23 May – ‘The 1828 “invasion of Ulster” and the meeting at Ballintra’ Patrick Duffy, PhD candidate in history at Trinity College, Dublin and IRC Postgraduate Scholar will give a talk on John Lawless’ ‘invasion of Ulster’ in 1828 and the meeting at what was then the Ballybay Catholic church located in Ballintra graveyard. Meeting at Ballintra church (Eircode: A75 F750) at 7pm on Thursday, 23 May to view the site of the meeting, followed by a talk on its background, key events, significance and legacy at Drumhowan Community Centre (Eircode: A75 YV81) at 8pm. All welcome. Refreshments served.

Diocesan Music Day & Weekend – Saturday/Sunday 25/26 May 2024 – St Joseph’s Pastoral Centre and Church, Park Street, Monaghan. Led by Ronan MacDonagh, the renowned composer of liturgical music in the traditional Irish style. The Diocesan Music Day will take place on Saturday 25th from 10am to 4pm in St Jospeh’s Pastoral Centre. On Sunday 26th at 5pm there will be a Concert with Fuamlaoi and String Quartet in St Joseph’s Church – an enchanting evening of Liturgical Music in true Irish Traditional style. Organised by the Clogher Diocesan Liturgy Commission. Tickets for each day can be purchased for €10 / £10; for those who wish to attend both days a special combi ticket will cost €15 / £15. Lough Derg One Day Retreats in May: These guided days of prayer and reflection will take place on Sun 5th, Mon 6th, Sun 12th, Tue 14th, Sat 18th, Sat 25th and Mon 27th. You are invited to The Annual International Commemoration Day of An Gorta Mor/The Great Hunger in The Bully’s Acre Graveyard,Scotshouse Rd Clones on Sunday 19th May from 12-1pm. Theme – The tradition,elements and cultural importance of an Irish Wake. Parking at the Graveyard and along the Scotshouse road is limited. There will be a shuttle bus from the front of Clones Credit Union from 11:30 am or enjoy a walk out to the Graveyard. Wear suitable clothing and footwear and bring some wildflowers to scatter on the site. Everyone Welcome.

Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Wednesday 7 August 2024 and will be led by Bishop Larry Duffy, Bishop of Clogher. Families and parish or prayer / community groups are welcome to make the journey and to gather in Knock. Times to be confirmed. Parishes or groups of parishes are encouraged to arrange transport, should the demand exist.
The parish office will be closed for annual leave on 20th May and reopens on Tuesday 28th May at 10am. If there are any emergencies during office hours on those dates please contact Monaghan parish office on 047 81220.
